Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Schröder ist Facharzt für Chirurgie, Viszeralchirurgie (Bauchchirurgie) und spezieller Viszeralchirurgie. Nach der chirurgische Ausbildung an der Universitätsklinik in  Kiel spezialisierte sich Prof. Schröder früh auf die laparoskopische (per Bauchspiegelung) Chirurgie der Bauchorgane. Als Oberarzt an der Universitätsklinik und als Chefarzt an chirurgischen Kliniken in Bergisch Gladbach und Hamburg kamen weitere Spezialisierungen in der operativen Versorgung von Bauchwandbrüchen (Leisten-, Nabel- und Narbenbrüche)  sowie in der Proktologie hinzu.
